FAQ

What do you do at the Audition Factory?
Simply, everything you once shoved in an oversized envelope is now sent over the Internet. It's not a new idea. We just had to wait for the Internet to catch up! If there's an advantage to the old-fashioned way, we haven't found it. This is faster, easier, more flexible and the video's great.
Who needs the Audition Factory?
Anyone who would normally send a tape when applying for a job. That's anchors, reporters, meteorologists, hosts, producers, videographers, editors, directors. In TV, the list is nearly endless.
What do I get?
You get a personalized website with up to 10 minutes of high quality, streaming video. We digitize your tape and then break it down into individual 'cuts.' That video, with your resume, bio and writing samples (if applicable) goes on your site. Your domain has a custom name - for instance, www.yourname.com (subject to availability), not some clunky, long address. Each page has a custom designed 'nameplate' with your photo. You get all that, hosted on the web for six months. See the "sign up" page for more details.
What does this cost?
The complete package is $349 for six months, including 10 minutes of video. Additional video costs $10 per minute. If, after your site is up, you'd like to add to your video or change the video that's already there, it's also $10 per minute with a $30 minimum. Changes to your resume or bio are included at no additional cost. You can extend your site an additional six months, at any time, for only $100. We accept all major credit cards and PayPal.
What do I have to do?
Not much, really. We need your tape or DVD, of course. We figure you already have your resume in a word processor. We'll need that and a short bio, which goes on your home page. If you've got a digitized photo, we'll use it. Otherwise, we can capture a photo from your video. Our "Sign Up" page has details on how to send it.
I see multiple cuts on the demos. My tape is a straight rip.
If you'd like (and we think you will), we will break your tape into individual cuts. The advantage is, when the person watching your video has seen enough anchoring, he can go to your standups, etc. This might be the biggest advantage of auditioning digitally - and it is a huge advantage.
I'm looking, but... well, you know...
Hey, everyone looks for a job from time-to-time. We won't tell. We thought long and hard about how to handle this. The simplest method is to give you your own domain - like www.yourname.com. It could be johnsmith.com or, maybe fred-news.com or reporter-ann.com. That's the address you give out.
I'm an agent/manager. Will you host videos of my clients?
Yes, we can arrange a site for multiple clients, all with your logo and look. for more details.
This is sounding complicated.
No, it's really simple, because we do it all. We digitize your video, build your pages and then maintain the website to make sure everything is working. Your site will 'live' on computers owned by the world's largest hosting company. We even register the custom domain name.
Video is very bandwidth intensive. How much do I get?
We expect you'll never want for bandwidth. Our service is meant to be used to apply for jobs. We know you'll show your friends and family. That's fine, too. But if you get mentioned by Larry King or featured in People Magazine, we'll have to limit access to your site. We just aren't equipped for that kind of onslaught. There's a second reason we'd have to cut you off. What's on your audition tape is 'fair use' of material owned by others. Once your video is re-purposed, used for something other than finding you a job, 'fair use' no longer applies.
How will my video be seen?
We are huge believers in Flash video. It has become the 'universal donor' for Internet video. As far as we can tell, Flash is playable on more computers than Windows Media, Real or Quicktime. The video is played right on the web browser - no pop-ups or players. Your video is encoded to look as good as possible, while playing almost instantly on nearly every computer with a broadband connection. Once it starts, your video should play straight through without stopping.
